Estate planning: Understanding the basics
Protecting your children,
What is estate planning and who needs it? But estate planning isn't just for the ultra-wealthy.
Guardianship as part of estate planning
Write a will
A will doesn't just divide up assets for heirs. Consider revising your will every few years
Guardianship of a child
If your children are minors, If you don’t designate a guardian, the
Guardianship for a child with special needs takes even more planning. In addition to designating a guardian, 你需要考虑一个最能处理你的孩子的代理权和/或作为 trustee for a special needs trust. 监护人和受托人不必是同一人, 让他们成为不同的人是有益的, as that may provide some checks and balances.
If you don't have a designated medical proxy or advance medical directives,如果你丧失行为能力,法庭指定的监护人将为你作出医疗决定. By completing a medical advance directive,
Power of attorney
By granting durable power of attorney to someone you trust,
Estate planning that includes financial planning
Even if you don't have a large estate, By appropriately designating beneficiaries for your accounts and buying life insurance to help protect loved ones,
