Get proof of insurance for a new car at State Farm®
Purchasing a car? Before driving off the lot, here are two ways to obtain proof of insurance for your vehicle.
Get insurance ID card
It’s fast and easy to show your current ID card as proof of insurance to the dealership.
Your current State Farm policy automatically provides certain coverages for a new or replacement car for up to a specified, limited number of days after you take possession of the car.footnote 1 The number of days differs by state, so check your policy.
Add or replace a vehiclefootnote 2
You can log in to update your policy to obtain proof of insurance on your new car. After buying your new car, you will need to add or replace it on your existing policy.
Update your policy with these steps:
- Log in to My Accounts
- Go to My products and find your auto policy
- Select Make a policy change
- Choose Add vehicle or Replace vehicle
